A Surprise Wedding at the River Lounge

When L&P initially booked me as their Ottawa wedding photographer for their engagement party, none of us anticipated the incredible twist the day would take. What started as a gathering to celebrate their engagement transformed into an unforgettable surprise wedding at the elegant River Lounge Ottawa.

From Venue Challenges to the Perfect Solution

Originally, the couple had planned their wedding at a different venue. However, just a few months before the big day, the venue unexpectedly closed its doors. Faced with this challenge and knowing their family and friends were travelling from around the world, L&P needed a new location—and fast.

When they reached out to me, I provided them with a thoughtfully curated list of unique and intimate venues in Ottawa. Unlike the generic options they had received from others, this list included hidden gems that matched their vision. When they visited the River Lounge, they knew it was perfect for their celebration.

A Surprise That Stole Everyone’s Heart

To make the most of their family and friends’ presence, L&P decided to turn their engagement party into a surprise wedding. The transformation was kept a secret, and the excitement of the big reveal made the day even more special.

Although the ceremony was originally planned for the outdoor terrace, Ottawa’s unpredictable weather brought rain. But the indoor space at the River Lounge proved to be a blessing in disguise. The modern, cozy interior created a romantic and intimate backdrop for their heartfelt vows.



A Celebration of Culture and Love

One of the most beautiful elements of the day was L’s choice of attire. To honor P’s Indian heritage, she wore a stunning red dress for the ceremony. Later, she changed into a simple yet elegant white gown, showcasing her personal style while celebrating tradition and unity.

Their guests were overjoyed by the surprise and filled the room with love, laughter, and happy tears. The spontaneity of the event added an unforgettable charm, making it a day everyone would remember forever.

From our very first meeting, I felt an instant connection with L&P. Their warmth, sense of humor, and love for each other made working with them a joy. Being part of their special day was a true honor, and the bond we created during their wedding has lasted well beyond that magical day. I’m grateful to still call them friends and to have witnessed such a heartfelt celebration of love.
