I met B & M in 2020 after a Zoom consultation for their sunset engagement session at Pinhey’s Point in Ottawa. Those photos turned out to great and got me excited for their fall wedding a year later! B & M wore 2 different outfits for their wedding celebration: a Bengali sari and Sherwani for the Muslim ceremony and a traditional western bridal outfit for their reception. It is so special for a wedding vendor in Ottawa to witness this kind of celebration of cultures.
The decor
This fall Ottawa wedding included a beautiful mix of cultures while being simple yet and elegant, the decor by Sage Designs spoke for itself. The color palette of the wedding was a mix of blush colors with a few pops of red and velvet which added a lot of depth and dimension to otherwise a very large and cold room. Lots of white was also used to brighten up the space. The Alma Duncan Salon at the Ottawa Art Gallery is an amazing and versatile venue that can be dressed up or down and offers a blank canvas to create a perfectly curated look to your style. Furthermore, the Art Gallery offered a venue with a lot of character to their guests with all the pieces of art displayed in the building.
On their wedding day, we had initially planned to get out couple photos done at the Major Hills Park but Mother Nature decided otherwise: it started to rain right around portrait time so we opted to take their newly wed photos inside of the Gallery and we were able to create beautifully curated photos with a lot of character. As a Ottawa wedding photographer, I was very happy and thankful to have access to such a beautifully lit space.
The Small details
A unique item that stood out in my memory was their unique wedding cake under the theme of the Pixar movie Wall E, it was a very personal touch that perfectly represented the couple. They also prepared some very cute succulent plant as a thank you gift to their guests, which for a plant lover like me is thoughtful gift. During their marriage ceremony, they read their personal vows to each other from delicate vow books from Deux Amoureux that I gifted them.
Speeches are always very special for me to hear. I feel like I get to be apart of the couple’s family and the speeches at B & M’s wedding were no exception. The sweet and touching words said by B’s dad made my eyes teary and the speech given by M’s dad made me laugh my heart out. I hope you enjoyed this beautiful fall wedding at the Ottawa Art Gallery as much as I loved shooting it!
